Why join WAIFC

WAIFC is a young not-for-profit with an unusually wide reach: two screen industries, a festival in the making, and working relationships with studios, agencies and government on both sides of the Indian Ocean. Volunteering here is not envelope-stuffing. You get real work, a credit with your name on it, and a room full of people worth knowing.

Access to the room

Festivals, premieres, delegations and industry roundtables — the events where Western Australian and Indian producers actually meet each other.

A credit you can point to

Your work is published under WAIFC's name with your credit attached. You leave with portfolio pieces and a written reference.

Mentors, not supervisors

Our Board and Advisory Councils include producers, festival programmers and screen executives. You will work alongside them, not beneath them.

A network across two markets

Perth and Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. Few volunteer roles in Western Australia open a door that wide.

Volunteer roles

These are the roles we need filled right now. Most are remote and flexible; the event roles need you in Perth on the day. Read the list, pick what fits, then apply once using the form below — there is no separate application per role.

Content Writer

Creative & Content
3-5 hrs/week
Remote
The role

Write the words that carry WAIFC: event copy, member newsletters, festival programme notes and short profiles of the filmmakers we work with.

You'll bring

Clear, unfussy English and the discipline to file on deadline. An interest in Indian or Australian cinema helps more than a writing degree.

Social Media Coordinator

Marketing & Comms
4-6 hrs/week
Remote
The role

Plan and publish WAIFC's Instagram and LinkedIn: event build-ups, behind-the-scenes from delegations, and the stories that come out of them.

You'll bring

You have run an account that people other than your friends followed. Comfort with Canva or similar, and a feel for when to post and when not to.

Graphic Designer

Design & Brand
4 hrs/week
Remote
The role

Produce event collateral, social templates, festival artwork and presentation decks within WAIFC's existing brand system.

You'll bring

Working knowledge of Figma, Illustrator or InDesign, and a portfolio. Student work is fine.

Event Photographer

Photo & Video
Per event
Perth, WA
The role

Shoot WAIFC receptions, premieres, roundtables and delegation visits, then deliver a selected, edited set within a few days.

You'll bring

Your own camera and the confidence to work a room in low light. Portraits and candids both matter.

Videographer & Editor

Photo & Video
Per project
Perth, WA
The role

Capture and cut short-form video: event recaps, speaker grabs, ambassador messages and social edits.

You'll bring

A camera you know well and editing in Premiere, Resolve or Final Cut. Sound matters as much as picture.

Event Support Crew

Events & Production
Per event
Perth, WA
The role

Run front of house at WAIFC events: registration desk, guest lists, seating, AV cues and the hundred small things that keep an evening moving.

You'll bring

Reliability on the day, a calm manner with guests, and availability for occasional evenings and weekends.

Partnerships & Sponsorship Assistant

Partnerships
4 hrs/week
Perth + remote
The role

Research prospective partners, help prepare sponsorship proposals, and keep partner contact records accurate and current.

You'll bring

Careful research habits, clear written English and comfort in a spreadsheet. Business, marketing and law students tend to enjoy this one.

Web & Digital Assistant

Technology
3 hrs/week
Remote
The role

Keep waifc.org.au current: publish events and news, update pages, check links and flag anything broken before a visitor finds it.

You'll bring

Some experience with Webflow, WordPress or a similar CMS. You do not need to write code.

Subtitling & Translation Volunteer

Creative & Content
Per project
Remote
The role

Translate and subtitle short films, festival submissions and WAIFC communications between English and an Indian language.

You'll bring

Fluency in English plus Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi or another Indian language. Subtitling software can be taught.

Community & Membership Liaison

Administration
3 hrs/week
Perth, WA
The role

Be the first reply to people who get in touch: answer membership enquiries, welcome new members and keep the contact records tidy.

You'll bring

A friendly, prompt manner in writing and the patience for careful record-keeping.
