WAIFC, a creative bridge between Western Australia and India
Our Principles

How we work today and how we aspire to grow in the future

Our Principles

The West Australian Indian Film Council (WAIFC) was established to strengthen connections between Western Australia and India through the screen and creative industries.

As we build relationships, partnerships and opportunities, we are guided by a set of principles that reflect our values, our purpose and our commitment to serving the broader industry and community.

These principles help shape how we engage, collaborate and make decisions.
01
Collaboration Over Competition
WAIFC believes that meaningful outcomes are achieved through collaboration.

We seek to work alongside industry bodies, government agencies, educational institutions, festivals, businesses, creative practitioners and community organisations to create opportunities that benefit the broader ecosystem.

Our focus is on building bridges, not barriers.
02
Cultural Respect
At the heart of WAIFC is a commitment to cultural understanding and mutual respect.

We recognise that storytelling has the power to connect people across borders, generations and cultures. We value the diversity of perspectives, traditions and experiences that enrich both Western Australia and India.

We are committed to fostering engagement that is respectful, inclusive and culturally informed.
03
Transparency and Accountability
As an independent not-for-profit organisation, WAIFC is committed to operating with integrity, transparency and accountability.

We strive to maintain clear governance practices, responsible stewardship of resources and open communication with our stakeholders, members and partners.

Trust is fundamental to our success and long-term sustainability.
04
Industry-First Approach
WAIFC exists to support the growth of relationships and opportunities within the screen and creative industries.

We seek to place industry outcomes at the centre of our work, ensuring that our activities contribute to meaningful engagement, professional development, knowledge exchange and long-term sector growth.

Our focus is on creating value for the industry rather than for any individual organisation or interest group.
05
Diversity and Inclusion
WAIFC believes that stronger industries are built through diverse voices, experiences and perspectives.

We welcome participation from people of all backgrounds and seek to create opportunities that encourage inclusion, representation and accessibility across our activities and initiatives.

Diversity is a strength that enriches creativity, innovation and collaboration.
06
Respect for First Nations Peoples
WAIFC acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia and recognises their enduring connection to land, waters, culture, language and storytelling.

We respect the knowledge, traditions and cultural contributions of First Nations communities and recognise the important role they play in Australia's creative and cultural landscape.

We are committed to listening, learning and fostering respectful engagement with First Nations peoples and organisations.
07
Long-Term Relationship Building
WAIFC was established with a long-term vision.

We believe meaningful international partnerships are built through trust, consistency and sustained engagement over time.

Our focus is on creating enduring relationships between Western Australia and India that continue to generate cultural, creative and economic value for future generations.
08
Mutual Benefit
WAIFC believes successful partnerships create value for all parties involved.

We seek to promote initiatives that deliver positive outcomes for both Western Australia and India, supporting collaboration that is balanced, respectful and mutually beneficial.

Our goal is not simply to facilitate connections, but to help create opportunities that strengthen both regions through shared success.
09
Looking Forward
WAIFC's principles provide a foundation for how we work today and how we aspire to grow in the future.

As the organisation evolves, these principles will continue to guide our decisions, partnerships and engagement with industry, government, educational institutions, creative practitioners and communities.

Together, they reflect our belief that collaboration, respect and shared opportunity are essential to building a stronger relationship between Western Australia and India through the power of storytelling and creativity.
