A creative bridge between WA and India
Why WAIFC
Why WAIFC was Established
As Australia's gateway to the Indian Ocean region, Western Australia is increasingly positioned to play a larger role in the growing relationship between Australia and India across trade, education, tourism, technology, culture and the creative industries.
At the same time, India has emerged as one of the world's most dynamic screen and entertainment markets, producing content for audiences across the globe and expanding its international partnerships in film, television, streaming, visual effects and digital media.
The West Australian Indian Film Council (WAIFC) was established to help connect these opportunities.

🇦🇺 Western Australia
Why Western Australia?
With world-class natural locations, a rapidly growing creative sector, internationally recognised universities, strong multicultural communities and major investments in screen infrastructure, Western Australia is increasingly attracting attention as a destination for screen production and international collaboration.
Western Australia is also uniquely positioned geographically. Perth is Australia's closest capital city to India and is geographically closer to Mumbai than it is to Sydney. For centuries, the Indian Ocean has connected people, trade, ideas and cultures between our regions. Today, that same proximity creates opportunities for stronger collaboration in the creative industries.
The development of new screen production infrastructure in Western Australia, including Perth's emerging studio ecosystem, presents a significant opportunity to position the State as a destination for international screen production, co-production, talent exchange and industry engagement.
WAIFC was created to help ensure Western Australia is actively represented and connected as these opportunities continue to emerge.
🇮🇳 India
Why India?
Beyond film production, India's creative industries encompass television, streaming platforms, animation, visual effects, gaming, music and digital content creation.
India's growing global influence, creative talent and international outlook present significant opportunities for collaboration with Western Australian industry, businesses, educational institutions and government stakeholders.
As Australia and India continue to strengthen their broader strategic relationship, there is increasing recognition that creative industries can play an important role in building people-to-people connections, cultural understanding and economic opportunities.

Why Now?
The timing has never been more important.
The development of new screen infrastructure, growing interest in international collaboration, increased engagement between government and industry stakeholders, and the rising profile of India as a global creative powerhouse create a significant window of opportunity.
Rather than waiting for opportunities to emerge organically, WAIFC was established to help facilitate connections, encourage collaboration and support the development of sustainable relationships between Western Australia and India.
Our Role
WAIFC is not a funding body, film studio or government agency.
Our role is to act as a bridge between industry, government, education and community stakeholders who share an interest in building stronger screen and creative industry relationships between Western Australia and India.
We seek to support:
WAIFC works collaboratively with industry organisations, government agencies, educational institutions, festivals, studios, businesses and creative practitioners to help create opportunities that benefit both Western Australia and India.
Looking Ahead
WAIFC was founded on a simple belief
Western Australia should have a meaningful seat at the table in one of the most important international creative industry relationships of the coming decades.
By bringing together industry leaders, creative practitioners, businesses, educational institutions and government stakeholders, WAIFC aims to help create lasting partnerships that generate cultural, creative and economic value for both Western Australia and India.
As Western Australia's dedicated platform for India-focused screen and creative industry engagement, WAIFC seeks to help unlock opportunities that showcase Western Australian talent, attract international collaboration and strengthen the enduring relationship between Western Australia and India through the power of storytelling, creativity and cultural exchange.
